Light a Candle
"I am the light of the world; he who follows me will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life." (John 8:12)
At times it may not be possible to come to church and light a candle, so we offer this option for anyone who would like to make an offering of prayer and faith by lighting a virtual candle.
How to light a virtual candle
Below is an interactive view of the solea at St. Katherine. Click one of the tables with candlesticks to pick up a candle, hover over a lit candle to light yours, offer your prayer, and place it in the sand just as you would in person. We hope this view helps you feel connected to St. Katherine while you are unable to be here.
Support Our Parish
If you would like to donate to our parish community in support of our ministries, use the donate button at the top of the candle view, or request a candle and tell us your intentions.
Lighting a candle in person? The suggested donation is $1 for a beeswax taper and $5 for a glass votive candle. You can pay with cash or card at the candle stand in the church (cards are taken through the Square app there).
What the Candle Represents
The candle represents the Light of Christ, which illumines the world and the souls of those who devote their lives to Him. Lighting a candle is an act of piety and an expression of faith and hope in God's help, which is always sent to all who turn to Him and His Saints with faith and prayer.
The wax represents the softness of our soul: when touched by the flame of Christ, we allow ourselves to be shaped in His likeness. Beeswax is the product of the hard work of bees gathering from many flowers, reminding us of the diligence needed to collect only the good nectar of godly things and reject what is harmful in the world.
Just as a candle burns and lights up its surroundings, Christians who offer themselves to a life in Christ enlighten those around them and show the way of salvation. As Christ said, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven" (Matthew 5:16).
