Our Youth Ministries
Sunday School: preschool through high school, right after Holy Communion
GOYA: 7th to 12th grade
Altar Servers and Myrrhbearers: ages 7 and up
Sts. Joachim & Anna Family Ministry: for parents, grandparents and young children
Greek Dance: youth and young adults
Youth Safety: our policies and training for youth workers
HOPE (Grades K–2)
Holy Orthodox Primary Education, or HOPE, ministers to children in kindergarten through 2nd grade. The mission and goal of the HOPE ministry is to lead our children into experiencing the Holy Orthodox Faith. By developing a personal relationship with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and becoming active sacramental members of the living Church, our children will be equipped with the tools they need on their journey toward salvation. A foundation of faith laid at this age will guide and strengthen them through life.
JOY (Grades 3–6)
JOY stands for Junior Orthodox Youth and ministers to children in grades 3 to 6. The mission and goal of the JOY ministry is to lead our young people into experiencing the Holy Orthodox Faith. By developing a personal relationship with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and becoming active sacramental members of the living Church, our young people will be equipped with the tools they need on their journey toward salvation. A foundation of faith laid at this age will guide and strengthen them as they move on to junior high and high school.
First Fridays at Assumption
A hallmark ministry of Assumption Greek Orthodox Church in Scottsdale, First Fridays is open to all HOPE, JOY and Jr. GOYA youth (kindergarten to 8th grade). It is held on the first Friday of each month, September through May, from 6:00 to 8:30 PM. The evening offers a safe place for young people to spend time together and to engage in their Orthodox faith through campfires, group games, movies, arts and crafts, discussion and more.
Parents should bring their children no later than 6:00 PM and check in with the volunteer staff. Questions? Call the Assumption church office at (480) 991-3009 or see the First Fridays information page.
All Saints Orthodox Summer Camp
Since the mid-1980s, All Saints Summer Camp has drawn hundreds of young people from across the country to one of the Southwest's best summer camp programs. Campers truly engage in and learn about their Orthodox tradition while making lifelong friendships and memories, through arts and crafts, outdoor activities, campfires, archery, nature hikes, Olympics, evening events, daily worship services and Orthodox life discussions.
The camp is held in northern Arizona, a short drive from the Grand Canyon. Its staff of young adults, clergy, seminarians, lifeguards, doctors and nurses is selected from across the country and well trained. All Saints Camp is endorsed by the Metropolis and open to youth ages 8 to 18.
Hymnal Resources for Children
